Primary Farm Fun

This week the Primary classes had lots of fun at the farm!  First they gathered some hay to put a fresh layer all along the ground for the chickens.

They also loaded the feeder with chicken feed so our feathery friends would have something to eat.

Our special chickens need more that just dry feed.  They also like to have greens.  So the children pulled some weeds and other plants from some of the garden beds and worked together to collect them into a container that they then carried over to toss around for the chickens to graze.

While they were pulling plants to feed to the chickens Farmer Catherine and Farmer Amanda told  the children that they had thought that they may want to pull the flowers out of a particular bed to plant something else there, but then they noticed many honey bees buzzing from petal to petal.  The farmers explained the importance of the job those bees are doing and decided to leave the bright yellow flowers in their bed for now.

The children then gathered the eggs from the coop and passed them one by one down the line to be placed in the egg carton.

After finishing up with the eggs they all washed their hands well and left some very happy chickens to graze.
