Trevor - upper elementary

Today at farm we all went as one group again because we had lots to do and today is the last farm day.  First we reviewed the farm rules, then the upper and lower elementary both went to their garlic beds and we got to pick some of the garlic plants.  We also measured the tallest and the constant which is the tallest plant the first time we measured.  So we measure it every week.  If I remember correctly, the constant was 34" and the tallest was 35".  I probably should have written about the measuring before the picking but it's too late now.

Now about the picking, we each got to pick one garlic and after we picked them we rinsed them off and then we went back into the barn to eat a snack.  While we were eating snack, Farmer Edwin cut off the stem and the roots of our garlic. After that we separated into four groups and each group wrapped up a pile of garlic (not the garlic that we picked because it has to sit before we cook it) in some aluminum foil and put some olive oil on it.  Then we roasted it on the grill for thirty minutes so it would melt and we could spread it on some leftover focaccia bread (see my May 10 entry).

While it was roasting, the lower elementary went to take care of the chickens while the upper elementary cleared out a snow pea bed.  While my group was clearing out the bed we saw a bunch of bugs like pill bugs, ladybugs, spiders, ants, stinkbugs, and several ones we couldn't identify.  After we cleared out the beds we went back to the barn and found out that the garlic wasn't done but when it is done, Farmer Edwin will bring it to us.

Today at the farm we harvested the garlic we planted.  I have a lot of baby garlic.  I saw a chipmunk on the farm.  I love the blog!
